Cryptographic schemes are called minimal if they are stripped down to their simplest possible form, and any further elimination of one of their elements is known to lead to successful cryptanalytic attacks. Determining the minimal forms and assumptions of various cryptographic constructions had always been popular among the theoreticians, and more recently it had also been attempted by practitioners in order to speed up the submissions to various competitions. In this talk I will show how dangerous it is to walk along this bleeding edge by describing some new attacks on various minimal constructions.
Joint work with Orr Dunkelman and Nathan Keller.
