Reconstructing an incomplete image in real time: the challenge of the GECO team. Ugo Boscain and the GECO team from the Inria Saclay - Île-de-France centre are using geometric control theory for the reconstruction of images. Their ambition: to propose a technological solution to enable the real-time reconstruction of a photo. The European Research Council (ERC) has just awarded the researcher with a "Proof of concept" grant, which will enable him to add value to this research.
At the UIST2016 (User Interface Software and Technology) conference that took place in Tokyo from 16 - 19 October 2016, Mathieu Le Goc, PhD student with the AVIZ team at the Inria Saclay - Île-de-France centre, presented a new man-machine interface mode comprising several autonomous mini-robots that manage display and interaction. On this occasion, he received the best paper award.
Specialised in the analysis of brain images, Gaël Varoquaux is a member of the Parietal team at the Inria Saclay – Île-de-France research centre. On 29 September 2016, he was the guest at a "Unithé ou café" meeting organised by Saclay centre.

Last spring Michel Beaudouin-Lafon, member of EX-SITU, a joint LRI and Inria Saclay Île-de-France centre team, received an ERC Advanced Grant for his ONE project. The aim of the project is to fundamentally rethink the basic principles and the conceptual model of interactive systems, in order to enable users to take ownership of their digital environment. The project begins on 1 October 2016 with the arrival to the team of a first PhD student. The project foresees the recruitment of five PhD students, two engineers and proposes six years of post-docs.
The Networking Networking Women Community (N2 Women) has published the list of the ten women "to watch" in the field of networking and communications (10 Women in Networking / Communications That You Should Watch). Aline Carneiro Viana, member of the INFINE team at the Inria Saclay - Île-de-France centre, is one of these women who are very active and involved in this research community.
Inria Chairman and CEO Antoine Petit has appointed Dominique Chapelle to the post of Head of Science at the Inria Saclay - Île-de-France Research Centre. Leader of the M3DISIM team, he will replace Marc Schoenauer as of 1 July 2016. We met with Dominique Chapelle.
The LIFEWARE project-team joined the Inria Saclay - Île-de-France research centre in January 2016. Between hardware and software, LIFEWARE seeks to shed light on life software by trying to understand its methods using engineering methods. The international IDEX panel met from 25 to 29 April 2016 to evaluate the eight IDEXes selected in 2011/2012 for the first "Investments for the Future" programme (PIA1). At the end of its evaluation, the Paris-Saclay Idex had its probationary period renewed for 18 months.
