Mathieu Desbrun is a teacher-researcher in applied geometry at the Inria Saclay-Île-de-France Research Centre and at the École polytechnique.

An engineer with a degree from Ensimag (Grenoble's National Higher School of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics) and a PhD in computer graphics and image synthesis from the University of Grenoble, Mathieu Desbrun spent 23 years in the United States working in digital modelling, mainly at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). His research focuses on the numerical simulation of continuous equations: for him, scientific problems can be translated geometrically rather than from complex equations. The applications of his work concern different fields of activity such as the simulation of air resistance, the modelling of certain organs and the human system or the creation of special effects for cinema.
