Inria Branch at the University of Montpellier

The Inria branch in Montpellier, created in 2003, became the Inria Branch at the University of Montpellier when the strategic partnership was signed on June 23, 2023. Its dynamics are part of the development of the Montpellier site with the University of Montpellier, the PEI (Programme d'excellence I-Site), a project labelled Initiatives-Science-Innovation-Territoires-Economie (I-SITE) with the aim of meeting three major challenges for the 21st century: feeding, protecting and caring, thanks to its expertise in the fields of life sciences, the environment and agriculture.

The University of Montpellier and Inria have been cooperating for many years, as illustrated by the creation of Joint Project Teams on the Montpellier site, the first of which was set up in 2003. Inria is also a partner in the Montpellier I-SITE, and a member of the integrated university's COMIS (Comité des investissements Stratégiques et Structurants).

The Inria Branch at the University of Montpellier comprises 7 project-teams working in close collaboration with local laboratories, research and higher education establishments, as well as with local economic players. Its activities mobilize some one hundred scientists and research and innovation support staff, from 20 different countries.
