Axel Hutt, 2010 winner of the ERC – Starting Grant, is interested in the brain, or more precisely what happens inside the brain when we lose consciousness.

I apply a mathematical approach, by modelling interactions between neurons. Then I compare the electromagnetic signals emitted by this "theoretical" brain with real electromagnetic signals recorded by doctors on unconscious patients.
