André Seznec's research has focused on the architecture of microprocessors. The research which earned him the grade of ACM Fellow concerned cache architecture, the part of the memory used to temporarily store data in order to make it easier for the computer to carry out its processing. His proposals included compressing data in order to optimise the running of this memory architecture. Following on from this, he focused on the differentiation and diversification of processors better adapted to their applications (computers, smartphones, cloud servers, etc.). André Seznec set himself and his team the challenge of defying Amdahl’s law, which gives the gain in performance levels for a computer whose components are improved. Instead of improving the architecture of existing processors, he opted to develop new generations of processors still to be invented.
