One year after the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris, Inria participated this week in the India AI Impact Summit 2026. At the High-Level University and Scientific Meetings (RUSH) organised by the French Embassy in India, which are crucial for Franco-Indian scientific cooperation, Inria and India-DST announced the creation of the Franco-Indian Binational Centre for Digital Science and Technology.

This new stage builds on a long-standing partnership and a shared commitment by France and India to digital sovereignty and responsible artificial intelligence. It formalises the strengthening of this cooperation in all areas of digital science and technology.

For Inria, in its role as a national research institute for digital science and technology and a digital programme agency, the ambition is to translate this partnership into a tangible impact for research, innovation and society, in collaboration with the main academic and research institutions in both countries.

In the presence of the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, and Clara Chappaz, Ambassador for Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence, the creation of the Centre was highlighted, emphasising its importance for the future of Franco-Indian cooperation in the digital field.

Developing strategic alliances at the international level is a major challenge in order to manage the risks and opportunities of AI. This strengthened partnership between Inria and the DST is in line with other collaborations for a sovereign and competitive AI ecosystem, notably with:

  • Simula to strengthen Franco-Norwegian cooperation
  • The DFKI (German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence) and Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft as part of the Franco-German dialogue
  • The Chilean Ministry of Science for a binational centre on AI
