StellaCage: Geometry of plasma confinement in stellarators

In collaboration with the start-up Renaissance Fusion, based in Grenoble, we explore some mathematical aspects of nuclear fusion power, and more specifically of how to design a “magnetic bottle” of the stellarator type to efficiently confine the ionized gas (plasma) where the fusion reactions take place. We approach the problem by combining geometrical properties of magnetic field lines from the control perspective with shape optimization techniques.
