It was with great sadness that we learned that Roger Mohr passed away on 15 June last. Inria shares in the grief felt by his family and pays tribute to the contribution to the world of research by a great scientist, whose human qualities were recognised by all.

After qualifying to teach mathematics and an assistant post at the University Institute of Technology (IUT) of computer science in Nancy, where he remained until 1973, he joined the University of Nancy as a senior lecturer, then the graduate engineering school INPL - École des Mines as a professor. He would later become head of the French research laboratory of Xerox Research Europe in Meylan.
