Scilab Enterprises joins ESI Group
Since 2010, the eponymous company Scilab Enterprises has been offering services based on Scilab, a numerical analysis package created in 1982 from a project at the French Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control (Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique - Inria). Joining the ESI Group, the French company specializing in prototyping solutions, gives Scilab Enterprises a wealth of new opportunities.
Scilab is a free, open-source package that appeared in 1994 and within a few years has become a serious alternative to Matlab, particularly in the field of scientific calculation.
The first Scilab consortium was created in 2003, under the aegis of the Inria, followed in 2010 by industrialization with the formation of Scilab Enterprises. Seven years later, the software house joined the ESI Group, the pioneer and leader in virtual prototyping.
This acquisition opens up broader routes into the scientific and engineering community: the new common development directions involve devising leading-edge solutions for system modelling and data analysis, for instance. Scilab will continue to be developed, as will its solution Scilab Cloud, (designed for the SaaS roll-out of scientific and engineering applications), while the supply of professional services to businesses will continue as before.
