Nicholas Ayache new member of the National Academy of Surgery

Nicholas Ayache, an Inria research director, has been elected on December 6th member of the National Academy of Surgery.
The National Academy of Surgery is a transversal institution that brings together all surgical specialties and is open to non-surgical doctors and researchers working on interventional practices with therapeutic aims.
Nicholas Ayache, Inria research director hors classe , is one of the world's foremost researchers in the field of medical image analysis and simulation. A graduate of the Ecole des Mines de Saint-Etienne, the University of California at Los Angeles and Doctor of Science (Paris XI), Nicholas Ayache joined Inria in 1981. There, he created the Epidaure, Asclepios and today, Epione teams.
He is a member of many scientific councils and has won numerous awards including the EADS Grand Prize, the Microsoft Prize for Science in Europe, the Inria - French Académie des sciences Grand Prize and a scholarship from the European Research Council (ERC). In 2014, he holds the Chair in Computer Science and Digital Sciences at the Collège de France and becomes a member of the French Académie des sciences. Always cultivating a strong interest in the world of industry, he also supported the creation of five start-ups.
