Creating sensor networks that can provide farmers with complete, real-time and cost-effective information on weather conditions in their fields, even in areas without the Internet of Things, is the aim of the thesis Brandon Foubert has just started at the Inria Lille - Nord Europe research center in collaboration with Sencrop.
This year, Inria will again be a partner of the Paris Open Source Summit , the biggest event in Europe for open source, free software, and open digital technology. With our involvement and commitment to free software and open science, the institute considers open source to be an important vehicle for transferring scientific research to the socio-economic world, but also an essential support tool for access to training and open science.
As part of the AI for Humanity Plan, Inria was commissioned to coordinate the research component of the national AI program. Bruno Sportisse has just appointed Bertrand Braunschweig as director of this mission.
The first scheme of its kind in France, the BART (Blockchain Advanced Research & Technologies) research collective, which brings together the Inria institute, the Télécom ParisTech and Télécom SudParis engineering schools and the SystemX technological research institute, has just launched its own website!

To make France a global leader in artificial intelligence, while reconciling ‘performance and humanity’: that was the ambitious goal set by the French President in March. The AI for Humanity strategy, developed on the basis of the report prepared by French Deputy Cédric Villani, relies extensively on research and innovation to spearhead the development of AI. Inria will be coordinator of the research side of the plan.
Established in Bordeaux since September 2017, Ubisoft wishes to develop its offering by collaborating with academic stakeholders in the region. Supported by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine regional authority, Ubisoft has just signed a four-year research project, called "projet KIWI", with the Inria Bordeaux - Sud-Ouest research centre, CATIE (Aquitaine Centre for Information and Electronic Technologies), the Angoulême office of CNAM-Cedric (Centre for Study and Research in Computer Science) and the LaBRI (Bordeaux Computer Science Research Laboratory). The aim of this collaboration is to address technological challenges in a group of areas linked to the automation of interactive simulations that evolve in real time and the analysis of the players and their behaviour.
Inria rewarded for its collaboration with Lemma at the 8th edition of the FIEEC Prize for Applied Research
In each of the past 8 years, the Fédération des Industries Électriques, Électroniques et de Communication (FIEEC) [The Federation of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Industries] has awarded a prize for applied research. The goal of this prize is to promote successful collaborations between industry and public research while demonstrating both their economic effectiveness and their potential for innovation. This year, the 2nd prize was awarded to Adrien Loseille (from Gamma3) for his work in adaptive meshing in collaboration with Charles Leca, CEO of Lemma.

The association Poppy Station is the result of a transfer from Inria research and its open source robotics ecosystem, Poppy, towards a multi-partner external structure. Presented at the coming educational innovation trade fair, EducaTec EducaTice, in Paris on 21, 22 & 23 November, Poppy Station invites educational, research and cultural stakeholders to take the plunge into open source robotics.
In January 2016, Lorraine University of Excellence (LUE) received the I-SITE label, rewarding the partnership-based voluntarist approach it has adopted for over a decade. Sylvain Petitjean presents the challenges and advances of a programme described as “a global engineering initiative”.
On December 6, the Inria Lille research center will inaugurate its new demonstration area, where the results of some partnerships between Inria teams and start-ups will be presented. The prototypes include a robot gripper developed jointly by project team Defrost and the company TDR.
