Feeling and perceiving the symptoms of schizophrenia in augmented reality to reduce stigma

The symptoms of schizophrenia are difficult to visualise and this often leads to significant stigmatisation resulting in limited social relationships, limited employment opportunities and delayed treatment. In this project, we explore the use of augmented reality headsets to "distort reality" by simulating symptoms of schizophrenia such as visual and auditory hallucinations, derealization, delusions (so-called "psychotic" symptoms). The aim is to make these symptoms "live" for the general population, but also for health professionals, and even for other professions that may be affected by schizophrenic disorders (HR, teachers, law enforcement agencies, etc.) in order to improve their understanding of the disease and reduce stigmatisation. This work is carried out in close collaboration with clinical neuro-psychologists who are experts on the stigma of schizophrenia.
