Thierry Priol, Director of European and International Partnerships

In October 2012, Thierry Priol became Director of European Partnerships. His role involves the coordination of major European projects such as the Seventh European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020 and the EIT ICT Labs project.
Thierry Priol is a research director at Inria. He obtained a PhD in computer science from the Université de Rennes 1 in 1989 and an HDR (habilitation to advise doctoral theses) in 1995. He joined Inria in 1989 as a junior research scientist then was promoted to research director in 1995. He has conducted his research in the field of parallel computing, image synthesis algorithm parallelisation, and programming tools based on the concept of shared virtual memory.
He has also worked on the programming of computing grids, proposing extensions to software component models for code coupling applications. More recently, he began research on the programming of service infrastructures by using the chemical computing paradigm. He is one of the co-founders and a scientific advisor for the start-up Kerlabs in the field of operating systems for PC clusters (created in 2006).
From 1999 to 2009, he was the PARIS project-team leader at the Inria Rennes Bretagne Atlantique centre. From 2000 to 2003, he was vice-chairman of the Inria evaluation committee. From 2003 to 2007, he was director of the ACI GRID of the Ministry of Research. From 2004 to 2008, he was the scientific coordinator of the CoreGRID network of excellence funded by the European Commission.
Since April 2009, Thierry Priol has been the Deputy scientific director within the Research department and the European partnership department in charge of "networks, systems and services, and distributed computing". He devotes a portion of his working activity to duties including research coordination, prospecting, and scientific leadership on one or more research topics in his field of expertise. He is also in charge of a cross-disciplinary mission related to Inria's national or international actions.
