Frédéric Desprez is Deputy Scientific Director at Inria, responsible for Networks, Systems and Services and Distributed Computing.

He obtained his doctorate in Information Technology at the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble in 1994 and the Habilitation to advise doctoral theses from the Université Claude Bernard de Lyon 1 in 2001. In 1995, he started work at Inria as a Research Scientist and carried out research at the Parallel Computing Laboratory (LIP) of the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, in the Avalon project team. He is one of the co-founders of the start-up SysFera.

Frédéric carries out research in the fields of parallel algorithms, management of resources and scheduling for wide-scale distributed platforms, grids and cloud computing platforms. He is also scientific director of Grid'5000 which offers researchers and industrial operators a platform for evaluating parallel algorithms, applications and middleware on a large scale.

From 2000 to 2003 he was project-team leader of the ReMaP project team and until 2006 for the GRAAL project team. Frédéric was Vice-President of the Projects Committee for the Grenoble Rhône-Alpes research centre from 2006 to 2012. Between 2006 and 2008 he was Director of the Parallel Computing Laboratory (LIP) of ENS-Lyon.
