The aeronautical and space industries: Modelling
In partnership with the global competitiveness cluster Aerospace Valley, Inria organised two one-day events on the theme of modelling and engineering in the field of aeronautics and space. The first meeting, entitled "Modelling & digital simulation", was held on 26 January 2010 in Bordeaux. The second took place on 17 May 2010 in Toulouse and looked at modelling and robust systems.
These Meetings enabled Inria, its researchers from its eight research centres and its partners (start-ups, SMEs) to present the latest innovations and technologies in information and communication applied to this sector of activity. It provided manufacturers with an opportunity to identify the new technologies that, tomorrow, will be at the heart of their production process, while the researchers were able to gain a better insight into market issues and requirements.
Through specific presentations, the Institute's scientists illustrated how the products created by research can be applied to aeronautics, space and embedded systems:
- Modelling and digital simulation.
- Embedded systems, program proving and verification.
- Industrial automation and optimisation.
The programme for the first event held in Bordeaux was split into two halves. The morning was dedicated to presentations about open-source software, optimisation, high-performance computing and an example of Inria-Industry technology transfer. The afternoon began with a variety of demonstrations that allowed the teams, start-ups spun off from Inria and SMEs with strong ties to Inria teams to illustrate their research and technology transfer work on machines. The session ended with a round-up presentation.
As a partner of the Inria Bordeaux – Sud-Ouest research centre, the Aquitaine Regional Council actively participated in the event.
The second event was held in Toulouse and followed the same model.

Since 1994, the Inria-Industry Meetings have given industry and researchers an opportunity for discussion. The objective is to shorten technology transfer lead times. In 2009, the event was revamped. Inria opted to move closer to the regional competitiveness clusters by using its eight research centres located across France.
