The Educatec-Educatice exhibition is a key event bringing together education professionals. Kidlearn, a project run by the Flowers team from Inria’s Bordeaux–Sud-Ouest centre and ENSTA–Paris Tech, will be presented at the Inria stand in Paris from 20 to 22 November.
All the staff from the Inria Bordeaux – Sud-Ouest research centre, as well as its academic, institutional and economic partners and Inria Chairman and CEO Michel Cosnard, came together on Tuesday 29 October 2013 to mark the passing of the baton from Jean Roman, who had served as acting Director since Isabelle Terrasse' s departure in June, to new Centre Director Monique Thonnat.
Geostat team - Fête de la science
"From the infinitely large to the infinitely small" was the theme of the 2013 Fête de la Science (9-13 October). The event provided an opportunity to share the advances made by the centre's Geostat research team in its work on signal processing. The team has been working with Toulouse-based spatial oceanography and geophysics laboratory LEGOS (Laboratoire d’Etudes en Géophysique et océanographies spatiales) for several years now, and has now been able to put together in one film a year's worth of satellite oceanography images (which you can see a little further down the page).
Following the framework agreement signed in 2012 between Inria and the CDEFI (Conference of the Heads of French Engineering Schools), Antoine Petit, Deputy Managing Director of Inria, and François Cansell, Managing Director of the IPB, signed a framework scientific partnership agreement between their institutions today at the Inria Bordeaux - Sud-Ouest research centre, thus materialising their shared vision for a research strategy in the field of computational sciences at the Bordeaux site.
Local heritage day 2013
For those involved in heritage, the year 2013 is of particular importance: it marks the commemoration of the centenary of the law of 31 December 1913, the founding text for the protection of historic monuments in France, as well as the celebration of the 30th edition of the European Heritage Days. On this occasion, the Inria Bordeaux – Sud-Ouest Research Centre wanted to reveal how computing plays a major role in safeguarding our architectural heritage. Focus on the MANAO team
On 10 June, the Minister for National Education, Vincent Peillon, presented an initial milestone in the entry of Schools into the digital age, at the Lycée Diderot in Paris. The Phoenix was invited to present its "Collège +" tool, developed as part of the "Assistance numérique pour soutenir l’inclusion scolaire d’élèves porteurs de troubles du spectre autistique" (Digital assistance to support the educational inclusion of students with autistic spectrum disorders) research programme.
Since April, a new research team has joined the Inria Bordeaux – Sud-Ouest Research Centre. Its name? SISTM, for Statistics In Systems biology and Translational Medicine. In French, Statistiques pour la biologie systémique et la médecine translationnelle.
The Eigen library, the main contributors to which include Gaël Guennebaud and Desiré Nuentsa from the Manao team, has received an award from the 2013 Symposium on Geometry Processing (SGP).
