The modelling and dynamic visual representation of frictional mechanical contacts: this is the subject of the thesis completed by Gilles Daviet within the Bipop project team - work for which he has just received the 2017 thesis first prize awarded by French Association for Computer Graphics, the French Association for Virtual Reality and theEurographicsFrench Chapter. The intergovernmental seminar on digital sciences was held on Thursday, 28 February at the University of Cergy-Pontoise. The Inria Shacra research team (a joint team with the University of Lille 1*) offered a demonstration of medical simulation, in the presence of French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, Geneviève Fioraso, French Minister of Higher Education and Research, and Fleur Pellerin, French Junior Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises, Innovation and the Digital Economy. The visiting ministers were given the opportunity to test the demonstration program.

SOFA is an open-souce software platform fitting multi-physics simulation requirements. As a physics engine, SOFA provides mathematical models and algorithms to simulate physical systems, such as soft body dynamics with collision detection. Developed for more than 10 years, SOFA now includes many state-of-the-art models, solvers and algorithms to create new efficient numerical simulations.
On Tuesday, 19 June, the AMDECC Project, launched 5 years ago through a partnership between Safran Tech, Inria Bordeaux – Sud-Ouest and the CORIA (UMR6614 CNRS Université de Rouen and INSA Rouen), received the Award for Best Collaborative Project, one of the Digital Simulation Trophies awarded by Teratec and Usine Digitale.

TsunamiLab was designed by José Galaz, industrial civil engineer, during a collaboration between CIGIDEN and Inria Chile. The project has three main goals: generate a useful tool for the community, create quality software and educate citizens through experimentation.
