Urbana Champaign: A sparkling experience

One year ago, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Inria formed the Joint Laboratory for Petascale Computing (High-Performance Computing, HPC). Based in Illinois’ university, the shared laboratory focuses on developing algorithms and software for petascale computing and beyond. Researchers at the laboratory have integrated their work with the Blue Waters project.  The aim is to perfect the most powerful computer in the world. The Joint Laboratory for Petascale Computing is led by Inria’s Franck Cappello and Illinois’ Marc Snir from Urbana-Champaign’s computer sciences department who worked on IBM’s large supercomputing system and has been involved in high performance computing for more than 20 years. In this interview, Mark Snir talks about this collaboration.

Competitive selections 2013

Researchers hiring campaign 2013


The young graduate scientists and senior researchers hiring campaign starts on January 15th, 2013. Inria hires 20 young graduate scientists ("CR2") and 9 senior researchers ("DR2") via a competitive exam. Candidates are invited to apply until February 18th, 2013.

As from January 15th, you will be able to log onto Inria's website in order to fill out an application form.

Open ViBE2 - mind control made possible with brain-computer interfaces

The creation of this consortium and the work it has undertaken have culminated in the development of innovative industrial prototypes. OpenViBE2 has made it easier to prepare for the future of 'brain-computer interface' technology and its applications in the French and international video game market. This large-scale French project has opened the door for numerous and future technological developments and economic opportunities.

Appointment of Jean-Emmanuel Paillon


Having been seconded from the Prime Minister's Office where he was Secretary General of the Government Information Services, Jean-Emmanel Paillon took up the position of Chief Officer for Resources and Service Administration at Inria on 1 February 2013. Member of General Management, he is to assist the CEO in the organisation and operation of support activities and in the administration of all resources available to the Institute.

Edwin Chacon Golcher

Edwin Chacon Golcher is a specialist engineer member of the Inria project-team Calvi, a joint Inria / University of Strasbourg research team. The project-team in which he belongs,  is devoted to the mathematical and numerical study as well as to the visualization of different problems arizing mostly from plasma physics and beam physics.

Born in Costa Rica, he migrated to the United States to become a scientist.  He achieved his goal. Learn more about his cursus and work.
