Olivier Temam, recognized for his Franco-Chinese collaboration.

Emmanuelle Perrot - 23/04/2012

Olivier Temam, Senior Research Scientist at Inria and leader of the ByMoore exploratory action, has been recognized twice (in 2010 and 2011) as part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ “International Talents Program”, for his cooperation with ICT (Institute of Computing Technology) in Beijing. And in February, his former PhD student, Zheng Li, himself received an award for research excellence for his PhD thesis. This prize is awarded by the Chinese government to Chinese students who have obtained their theses abroad, and there are about 500 recipients among the tens of thousands of Chinese PhD students (in all scientific disciplines) graduating abroad every year. Olivier Temam has recently established a joint team with ICT (YOUHUA) within the framework of the Franco-Chinese Lab for Computer Science, Automation and Applied Mathematics (LIAMA) after first setting up an INRIA associate team. Olivier talks us about the rationale and benefits of this collaboration.

Creation of BART: a research collective dedicated to the Blockchain

Laurence Goussu - 6/03/2018

Signed on 6 March 2018 in Paris, this framework agreement puts into effect the creation of the BART joint research initiative (Blockchain Advanced Research & Technologies): a first in France in the field of the Blockchain. Around 30 researchers from four institutions are pooling their expertise and research efforts in order to remove the scientific obstacles linked to this disruptive technology, under a common roadmap defined for a duration of six years.

A new tool for the diagnosis of states of consciousness

Magalie Quet - 7/10/2018

Denis Engemann (Inria Saclay - Île-de-France / CEA NeuroSpin) and Federico Raimondo (University of Buenos Aires/Sorbonne University), under the direction of Jacobo Sitt, Inserm researcher at the Institut du Cerveau et de la Moelle épinière (CNRS/Inserm/Sorbonne University), propose a new electroencephalography (EEG) tool called "DoC-Forest" to establish patients' awareness. Unlike the other tools developed so far and reserved for a few expert centres, "DoC-Forest" will be accessible to patients all over the world. Their study was published in the October issue of the trade journal Brain .

Michèle Sebag on AI

Magalie Quet & Marie-Laetitia Gambié - 23/04/2018

Michèle Sebag, co-leader of the TAU research project, was recently elected as a member of the French Academy of Technology, a French academic association founded on 12 December 2000, whose aim is to ‘enlighten society on the best use of its technologies’, and where she participates in a commission on the ethics of computer science. An expert since the 1990s on issues regarding artificial intelligence, the magazine L’Usine Nouvelle also recently named her one of the “pioneers” of artificial intelligence: those “specialists in machine learning and data [who are] advancing the performance of algorithms and launching them to conquer new territories” . We meet the researcher who has been dedicated to AI for nearly 30 years…
