On 10 February Monique Thonnat, along with Mathieu Hazouard (Aquitaine regional councillor), Michel Delpuech (prefect of the Aquitaine region), Philippe Leconte (Inserm regional representative), Christophe Giraud (CNRS regional representative), Alain Juppé (president of the supervisory board of the Bordeaux CHU (university hospital)), Philippe Vigouroux (director of Bordeaux CHU), Thierry Francq (deputy general commissioner), Professor Michel Haissaguerre and Manuel Tunon de Lara (president of the University of Bordeaux), laid the foundation stone of the building which will be welcoming, in November 2014, the administrative staff, in December 2015 researchers and, in March 2015, the laboratories.

Intended for year 11 pupils, the course, entitledWhen mathematics and computing come together in digital sciencesis part of the MathC2+ government scheme, aimed at encouraging talented young scientists and promoting careers in the field of science.

Simulate the impact of tsunamis

As part of TANDEM*, an Investment in the Future Programme, the Cardamom project-team is contributing to “the expansion of scientific knowledge of France to anticipate the impact of a tsunami on France's Atlantic coastlines.” Ten renowned partners have committed to the four-year multidisciplinary project designed to provide improved awareness of risks and corrective actions to take.

Andreas Enge ERC 2011 grant

This year anew, four young researchers form Inria have got a grant from the very selective European Research Council, ERC, to take the lead of a five year long exploratory research with a budget of 1 to 1.5 million Euros. European Research Council 2016

Fabien Lotte awarded an ERD Starting Grant

Fabien Lotte is a researcher at Inria’s Bordeaux centre. He works on brain-computer interfaces by modelling the learning processes. He has just been awarded an ERC Starting Grant, which will allow him to open up this still recent field of research to the human factor, an aspect that has been largely overlooked by the specialists and that could help improve the use of interfaces.
