Robots that adapt to damage in a few minutes

Robots could help our society in many types of situation, for example searching for survivors after a natural disaster or alerting the fire services in the event of a forest fire. But they will always be confined to research laboratories until they are able to continue operating when damaged. Researchers from the Institute for Intelligent Systems and Robotics (CNRS/UPMC) and the Lorraine Laboratory of Research in Computer Science and its Applications (CNRS/Inria/University of Lorraine) are showing how robots can automatically adapt to damage in less than two minutes. Their results were published in the 28 May 2015 issue of Nature.

Equipe projet Infine (Inria Saclay-Île-de-France) -

We will show the various functionalities from RIOT on hardware of the type sensor/actuator to demo a control loop via the cloud. RIOT will be used to generate IoT data locally (via sensors), sending them to the cloud where this data is analyzed. This analysis will result in a physical action (via actuators). We will highlight two use-cases: building automation, and low-cost robotics

The National Days of Research in Robotics celebrate their 20 years

8/11/2017 to 10/11/2017

The National Days of Research in Robotics (JNRR), the leading congress of the CNRS Research Group in Robotics (GDR Robotique), are taking place this year from Wednesday 8 to Friday 10 November in Biarritz. Every two years, they bring together the entire French community of researchers in robotics. They are the opportunity to take stock of the latest advances in the main fields of robotics, to forge collaborations and to prepare the future.

Place : Domaine de Françon, 81 rue de Salon, Biarritz

Thinking about a career in robotics? Insights into some stand-out careers

Mediathena - 8/10/2019

Every two years, the National Robotics Research Days (Journées Nationales de la Recherche en Robotique- JNRR) bring together the community of robotics researchers in France. The event is an opportunity to catch up with the latest developments in the main fields of robotics being worked on by the community in France. The 2019 edition is being co-organised by Olivier Simonin, a professor at the INSA in Lyon, and François Charpillet, an Inria director of research, and is set to be held from 14 to 18 October in Vittel. The event will run in tandem with Young Robotics Researcher Day (Journée des jeunes chercheurs en robotique - JJCR) and a day of tutorials on the theme of Learning and Robotics.

We thought it would be a good idea to let the PhD students organising the JJCR event interview some of the researchers participating at this symposium. Interviews with Caroline Chanel, Serena Ivaldi and Anne Spalanzani, who speak about their career choices and their passion for robotics.
