Robots could help our society in many types of situation, for example searching for survivors after a natural disaster or alerting the fire services in the event of a forest fire. But they will always be confined to research laboratories until they are able to continue operating when damaged. Researchers from the Institute for Intelligent Systems and Robotics (CNRS/UPMC) and the Lorraine Laboratory of Research in Computer Science and its Applications (CNRS/Inria/University of Lorraine) are showing how robots can automatically adapt to damage in less than two minutes. Their results were published in the 28 May 2015 issue of Nature.
How can we best gauge, explore and anticipate the social impacts of the massive digital advances of our time? The Inria monitoring and forecasting cell has risen to the challenge in a white paper devoted to artificial intelligence, a policy document that provides a wide-ranging introduction to the issues raised by the progress of research in the field of AI.
Science for all
Since 2 March, the Cervorama exhibition at Cap Sciences has been attracting adults and children alike to come and play with Odo and Ada, two small wheeled robots that can be controlled blind in order to understand how the brain works.

We will show the various functionalities from RIOT on hardware of the type sensor/actuator to demo a control loop via the cloud. RIOT will be used to generate IoT data locally (via sensors), sending them to the cloud where this data is analyzed. This analysis will result in a physical action (via actuators). We will highlight two use-cases: building automation, and low-cost robotics
The National Days of Research in Robotics (JNRR), the leading congress of the CNRS Research Group in Robotics (GDR Robotique), are taking place this year from Wednesday 8 to Friday 10 November in Biarritz. Every two years, they bring together the entire French community of researchers in robotics. They are the opportunity to take stock of the latest advances in the main fields of robotics, to forge collaborations and to prepare the future.

This partnership agreement, signed by Inria and New York University at this end of year 2017, aims to facilitate collaborations and exchanges between the two institutions. With its 15 establishments spread over six campuses across Manhattan, New York University is the largest, non-profit private university in the country.
