Strategic Partnership
Inria and Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs are celebrating the third anniversary of their joint laboratory
How can telecommunications networks be automated to the maximum extent? How to handle the complexity of the data flows and communications exchanged? How can networks' expansion be maintained, while maintaining an impeccable quality level? These are some of the issues behind research conducted by the Inria and Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs joint laboratory dedicated to the communication networks of the future A partnership which is now three years old.

Technology transfer policy
Inria at the heart of the local economic community
For Inria Nancy - Grand-Est, whose assignment closely combines research and technology transfer, technology development is a central issue. To achieve this, the research centre relies on a strong and dynamic industrial network. It also draws on a community-based partnership with competitiveness clusters in the Grand-Est region in order to develop collaborative and innovative projects. In doing so, it helps the companies involved to assume a top-flight position in France and around the world.

Meeting with Thomas Watteyne, member of the Eva team
Thomas Watteyne is a member of the Eva team at Inria Paris. In 2016, as part of the "Save the peaches" project, he equipped Argentinian orchards with sensors in order to predict the arrival of frost and save the crops. The team is now planning to use the same technology in order to predict snow melt in the Sierra Nevada.

Innovation - Technology transfer
Green Touch
Convinced of the importance of developing more environmentally friendly technologies, Inria is a founding member of the Green Touch initiative, launched on Monday 11 January by Alcatel-Lucent and its Bell Labs research units. This consortium has set itself the ambitious goal of achieving a 1000-fold reduction of energy consumption on telecoms networks by developing, within the next five years, the technologies and components that will form the basis of the green networks of tomorrow.
Bruno Sportisse, Director of Technology Transfer and Innovation, explains why Inria has joined other academic and industrial organisations in becoming a member of the Green Touch consortium.
