Although we can predict seismic movements on the surface for a given tremor, we still cannot predict the occurrence of these tremors. Very long-term research will be needed. Nathalie Glinsky, a member of the Nachos project team and of the Mediterranean Centre for Technical Equipment Studies (CETE), and Etienne Bertrand, a researcher at CETE Méditerranée, tell us more.

A multidisciplined team comprised of researchers from Inria, the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the French National Museum of Natural History has unveiled for the first time a study on changes in the brain during the evolution of our species, Homo sapiens, over the last 30,000 years.

In the event of a natural disaster, information is not always available to the disabled or the elderly. Inria is involved in the Japanese Urakawa project, which aims to develop special communication methods for these groups of people.
The problem Colisweb submitted to the Inocs team at Inria Lille - Nord Europe was a complex one.The aim was to work out the schedule for a fleet of delivery vehicles in advance - and without knowing their workload -so that the company could offer instant deliveries at no extra cost.

Modelling - Biological systems
Modelling biological systems, in particular at the level of the dynamics of cellular processes, is the objective of the IBIS team. Biological data are becoming ever more plentiful, but their use in estimating the mathematical parameters of a model remains an especially difficult problem. Sara Berthoumieux, a PhD student in the IBIS team, tells us about her work on the subject, carried out as part of her thesis.
