One year ago, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Inria formed the Joint Laboratory for Petascale Computing (High-Performance Computing, HPC). Based in Illinois’ university, the shared laboratory focuses on developing algorithms and software for petascale computing and beyond. Researchers at the laboratory have integrated their work with the Blue Waters project. The aim is to perfect the most powerful computer in the world. The Joint Laboratory for Petascale Computing is led by Inria’s Franck Cappello and Illinois’ Marc Snir from Urbana-Champaign’s computer sciences department who worked on IBM’s large supercomputing system and has been involved in high performance computing for more than 20 years. In this interview, Mark Snir talks about this collaboration.
Collaborations with India
At the India-France Technology Summit in New Delhi, Inria will sign a memorandum of understanding with the Indian government's science and technology department (DST) to strengthen its joint programmes with local names from the digital world. Hélène Kirchner, Director of International Relations at Inria, explains the importance of these Franco-Indian programmes.

Paris, 20 April 2015 - IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) and Inria have just signed a framework agreement relating to research in the field of high-performance and real-time computation applied to energy technologies. The objective for both parties is to cooperate on the joint development of methodologies and algorithms derived from digital sciences research in order to anticipate the needs of industry.
ANR-JST FP3C (Framework and Programming for Post Petascale Computing), coordinated in France by the Grand-Large project-team, aims to tackle the challenges of high-performance computing. This exceptional collaboration between France and Japan is one of the four projects selected from the many submissions made as part of a call for projects.
