On 14 September 2009, Marie-Claude Dupuis, the CEO of the French National Radioactive Waste Management Agency (ANDRA) and Michel Cosnard, Chairman and CEO of the National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control (Inria) signed a partnership agreement with particular emphasis on digital simulation.
Matthias Mimault, a PhD student studying Applied Mathematics for the OPALE project team under the auspices of Paola Goatin, has won second place in the “Finales 180” or “My thesis in 180 seconds" competition.
Digital Simulation Awards
The Digital Simulation Awards, first held on 23rd June 2015, are intended to identify the French champions in the field of numerical simulation. Distene, the Inria start-up created by Mark Loriot and Laurent Anne in 2002, received the Jury Prize, amongst other awards.

For the experts in computer animation, simulating the movement of hair and clothing in the most realistic way possible is a more complex problem than it first appears. The work carried out by Florence Bertails-Descoubes in the inverse modelling of irregular dynamic systems could just be the solution they are looking for. She has recently been awarded a Starting Grant by the European Research Council (ERC).

The TERATEC Forum, a major meeting for international experts in HPC, big data and simulation, will take place on 19 and 20 June 2018 at the École Polytechnique. Once again this year, Inria is a partner of the event, where it will present a selection of innovative technologies. Inria will also be a partner of the European Research Café, which aims to showcase European scientific projects and initiatives in these fields.

In the 18th century, Angélique du Coudray laid the foundations of medical simulation by training 5,000 midwives using fabric models – and saving many lives in the process. Today, Stéphane Cotin has adopted the same approach, with resources at the cutting edge of research into numerical simulation.
On December 20th 2017, in the presence of Jean-Pierre BOURGUIGNON, President of the European Council of the Research (ERC) we invited ERC grantees to present their results, advances and ambitions. A precious opportunity to share their views on the future of their disciplines, discuss the best way of guaranteeing the economic and societal impact of the researches led in Inria Nancy Grand – Est Center as well as is and at our academic partners.
