According to the Inria/TNS Sofres survey conducted this year, nearly one French person in two declared they could not do without social networks. Such interest on its own proves what a success the social web is, although success is not without an increase in private data now present in cyberspace. A thorough grasp of interaction tools and controlling one’s web image are becoming major challenges for tomorrow’s web, both for individuals and companies… as well as a challenge for researchers developing social web management tools.

History of Inria
A graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole des Mines, he completed a PhD in mathematics in 1979. In 1980 he joined Inria, where much of his research work centred around the development of the Esterel language. This language is used to explain the temporal synchronisation of tasks and prove that they are correctly executed.

Epitomized by the Lytro, a new breed of so-called plenoptic or light field cameras allow to simultaneously capture multiple images of one single scene. This rich visual material can be edited in order to pick from different possible focuses, different depths of field and even different lens apertures. However, the current software line-up would be hard-pressed to process such files due to their dimensionality and complexity. Inria scientist Christine Guillemot has been awarded an Advanced Grant by the European Research Council (ERC) in order to tackle this unprecedented challenge and build algorithms for next-generation photo and video applications using light fields.
In 2017, those who make Inria celebrate half a century of their Institute.
Inria invites you at this occasion to attend to the conferences of three of its scientists, each of them from College de France. They will be followed by a round table about the impact of digital sciences on society, environment and security.
