URBANET - Experimental platform for wireless sensor networks

We showcase an experimental platform for wireless sensor networks. This platform can easily be moved and deployed on the field. It allows a simplified deployment of the code on the involved sensors and the collection of logs on a centralized data base.

The RIOT operating system will be demonstrated on devices based on small memory, low-power microcontrollers and radio transceivers. RIOT will enable interoperation of heterogeneous IoT hardware using the latest IETF/IRTF protocols (including 6TiSCH, 6LoWPAN/IPv6) and content-centric networking.

Historically, the study of mountain hydrology and the water cycle has been largely observational, with meteorological forcing and hydrological variables extrapolated from a few infrequent manual measurements. Recent developments in IoT technology are revolutionizing the field of mountain hydrology. Low-power wireless networks can now generate denser data in real-time and for a fraction of the cost of labor-intensive manual measurement campaigns.
