Thursday, February 19th, at 7pm will be held the 36th session of the "Jeudis du libre de Belgique" at the University of Mons, dedicated to the programming language Pharo. Stéphane Ducasse, team leader of Inria Lille - Nord Europe Rmod team, will be the speaker of this event for developers, students and academics.

According to Stéphane Ducasse, Pharo is the best language to learn and understand Object-Oriented Programming. With two other researchers, he revisited 10 years of teaching in a MOOC, which will soon be available on the FUN platform.

The book Dynamic Web Development with Seaside on the work of the RMOD team has been awarded a prize by the Smalltalk user group. Central to the Seaside platform for dynamic web application development is Pharo, one of the centre's flagship software applications.
For more than two years, Clément Béra has made good use of his engineering expertise as a valuable member of the Rmod project team. His work includes the optimization of virtual machines, essential links between the worlds of computer scientists and computers.
Carrying out maintenance operations on the labyrinthine and stratified information systems found in large corporations can often prove to be a headache. The start-up company, Synectique, has the capability of exploring this complex world, and can also provide made-to-measure diagnostics and repairs. One of the founders, Stéphane Ducasse, explains.
Inria & les consortia
The aim of this consortium is to promote Pharo software and its ecosystem, enable the definition of its road map and provide support to the developers and the user community. Among the members of this consortium are industrialists such as Synectique, Thales, Lifeware but also academics such as Inria, the Faculty of Information Technology in Prague and Smalltalk's Fundación Argentina.
The Pharo dynamic open-source language is expanding. A consortium has just been established. Several partners, such as VMWare, Yesplan and the Software Composition Group, will join the Inria Rmod project team to mobilise more resources for Pharo software.
