Olivier Fercoq was awarded one of the two thesis prizes from the Programme Gaspard Monge pour l'optimisation et la recherche opérationnelle (PGMO - Gaspard Monge Program for optimisation and operational research) for a topic that combines two very different applications: web referencing and chronotherapy. He will receive his prize on 3 October 2013 at the PGMO Days.
Thanks to the support of the Commands team, the start-up Safety Line is offering the aeronautical industry a solution for fine-tuning take-off phases. The objective is to reduce fuel consumption.

In an extremely competitive global market, the French wine-making sector must face numerous challenges. It must maintain its competitiveness in a durable way, and evolve so as to be in tune with societal expectations. EXAPTA - a decision-support tool (DST) adaptable to any vineyard - was created with this in mind.
While optimization has been playing a key role in signal and image processing for many decades, the signal and image processing community has made tremendous progress in the last ten years by adopting proximal methods. That breakthrough paved the way to large scale image processing in inverse problems (compressive sensing, deconvolution, inpainting…) as well as new and more involved modalities.

The problem Colisweb submitted to the Inocs team at Inria Lille - Nord Europe was a complex one.The aim was to work out the schedule for a fleet of delivery vehicles in advance - and without knowing their workload -so that the company could offer instant deliveries at no extra cost.
Partnership Research - Industry
The partnership between Safety Line and the COMMANDS research team has now resulted in the creation of an Inria Innovation Lab. Dubbed OSCAR (OptimiSation of Consumption for AiRplanes) and established for a period of three years, this joint laboratory aims to improve development of the product OptiClimb and provide airlines with flight scheduling and operational performance management software. Benefits for the industry include optimizing fuel consumption and reducing CO2 emissions.
The place of the conference will be in the M3 extension building in the CRIStAL laboratory on the Campus of University of Sciences and Technologies of Lille from 12th to 16th June 2017.

Why is this transmission line used more in one context and less in another? Which production assets prevail depending on the period?
Artelys Crystal Super Grid has been designed to provide synthetic quantitative indicators adapted to each problem. Artelys Crystal Super Grid comes with a wide range of views, aggregated or detailed, which allow the comparison of energy strategies and also the optimization of power system assets.
Thanks to the collaboration with Inria-TAO, a new feature has been added into Crystal Super Grid: the joint optimization of production, storage, and transmission capacities under risk constraints.

- Bender's algorithm
- Parallel computing

The Commands team's identification and optimization tools are integrated in the Opti-Climb software, developed by Safety Line, which provides pilots with optimized flight plans. This trajectory optimization can be performed by local (direct approach) or global (dynamic programming) methods, and uses plane models (aerodynamics, thrust) identified from the data recorded during flights. Identification and optimization are done with Bocop (www.bocop.org), an open source toolbox developed by the Commands team since 2010.
