Nowadays, it goes without saying that the use of information technology is important, even necessary, in the life sciences.
The amount of information that needs to be processed, analysed, stored, and represented is constantly growing. These data must then be integrated, compared, and viewed alongside other data to further knowledge and generate added value.
This seminar is intended to review social networks from an inter-disciplinary point of view, so as to gain a better appreciation of the range of issues raised by this domain in methodological, scientific and policy terms. What is the real structure of these networks? How does such knowledge affect sociology? What are its policy consequences? What kind of world is emerging as a result of this digital frenzy?
