Today, at the beginning of the 21st century, pollution and congested roads are the scourge of our cities. To tackle these problems, Inria research laboratories have developed the CyCab, a small autonomous car packed with a multitude of the latest cutting-edge technological solutions. Among its many talents, the CyCab boasts the ability to avoid obstacles placed in its path.
From 13 to 21 May, 2010, and in close collaboration with the Lyon-based INSA and the ARDI or Agency for Development and Innovation in the Rhône-Alpes region of France, Inria is setting up a base in Shanghai on the banks of the Huangpu River. Based on the theme “Better City, Better Life” the World Expo 2010 will provide the Institute with the opportunity to present a number of innovations centred round the theme of a harmonious city. Inria will divide its participation up into two important components - the conference-debate “Digital Man at the Heart of a Digital Society” and Innovation Week.

Since April 2010, the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie science museum at Parc de la Villette in Paris has played host to the Tech’ Galerie: a 400sq.m. exhibition and debating venue dedicated to tomorrow's technologies. Pierre Ricono, Tech’ Galerie project manager, takes a look back at this pilot experiment and Inria's involvement in the event.
