Gérard Berry receives CNRS Gold Medal

This year's CNRS Gold Medal, France's highest honour for scientific work, has been awarded to Gérard Berry, former Research Director for Inria, former President of the Inria Evaluation Committee and, since 2012, occupant of the first chair in computer science at the Collège de France.

The new holder of the Information Technology and Digital Sciences Chair  at the Collège de France, Martin Abadi, will give his inaugural lecture on March 10th. His talk will be devoted to his specialty, computer security. Researcher at the Microsoft research centre in Silicon Valley, he teaches at the University of California. At the Collège de France, he will be succeeding Gérard Berry, Inria researcher since 2006, who will “pass the baton” to a new pioneer of the recently created chair. They share the same passion, the same joy in transmitting knowledge and the same will to establish the rightful place of this discipline among other traditionally recognised fields of science.

Inaugural lecture by Marie-Paule Cani

Marie-Paule Cani has been appointed Chair of IT and Digital Sciences at the Collège de France for 2015. The inaugural lecture will be held on 12 February 2015 and will focus on the theme “Shaping the imagination - from 3D Digital Design to Animated Virtual Worlds”.

Gérard Berry: How the world is turning digital

A graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole des Mines, he completed a PhD in mathematics in 1979. In 1980 he joined Inria, where much of his research work centred around the development of the Esterel language. This language is used to explain the temporal synchronisation of tasks and prove that they are correctly executed.

With Xavier Leroy, computer science confirms its presence at the Collège de France

At the end of May, Xavier Leroy, head of the Gallium project team at Inria, was appointed professor at the Collège de France for the "Software Sciences" permanent chair. This is great recognition for his scientific career, but also for the discipline he champions: fundamental computer science.

Xavier Leroy : Inria - French Académie des sciences Grand Prize

In November 2018, Xavier Leroy will join the Collège de France as the ‘Software Sciences’ chair. A marvellous acknowledgement for the architect of two great Inria successes: the functional programming language OCaml and the formally verified compiler CompCert.
