We present a network load estimation service, which builds upon a measurement-driven learning methodology modelling the delay behavior of the Precision Time Protocol (PTPv2/IEEE 1588-2008) in the presence of varying traffic workloads. As a use case, we demonstrate how this service can be utilized for load-aware video delivery using Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) technologies.

Paola Goatin, a member of the Inria Opale project team, is a mathematician who conducts research with very practical applications to optimize road traffic and manage crowds. While she has sometimes wondered about the prospects that could offer her taste for mathematics, she has always followed her instincts. This has brought her a great deal of success, including the Inria – French Académie des sciences Young Researcher Award showing Paola Goatin that she has made the right choices.
Coordinated by the AROMATH research team headed by Bernard Mourrain (Inria Sophia Antipolis), the POEMA project is a European (H2020) Training Network designed to go beyond traditional paradigms of Mathematical optimization by exploiting new advances in algebra and convex geometry. Mathematical optimization yields significant advantages for many industry and society sectors, ranging from production planning processes, transportation, to energy consumption, and resources control, where optimization solutions are used to determine the behaviour of many devices or services.
