The Social Web: Anne-Marie Kermarrec wins "Google Focused Award"

Anne-Marie Kermarrec, a senior research scientist at the Inria Rennes – Bretagne Atlantique centre, has been presented with the 2013 Google Focused Award. The award comes in recognition of the Web-Alter Ego project, which she is pursuing in collaboration with EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), and which focuses on the establishment of an original architecture for personalising web services. Her work is being conducted within the ASAP project team, which she leads. This ambitious project will benefit from the results she obtained as part of the ERC SG project GOSSPLE.

Anne-Marie Kermarrec, a researcher at Inria Rennes - Bretagne Atlantique research centre, is planning to found a start-up company based on her work on a scientific project funded by the European Research Council (ERC). Her aim is to help website publishers offer content that is individually tailored to the requirements of each user.

Anne-Marie Kermarrec: large-scale dynamic distributed systems

"As scalable as possible"… Beyond the pun on the well-known English term, the ASAP project team has some ambitious targets. The aim is no less than the design of algorithmic foundations making it possible to build, in an entirely decentralised way, taking account of the "uncertainty" inherent in contemporary distributed systems, large-scale distributed applications involving a large number of geographically separate and potentially mobile components. And this is to be done….as soon as possible, naturally!

In 2015, after thirteen years managing the project team ASAP at the Inria Rennes Bretagne-Atlantique research centre, Anne-Marie Kermarrec launched the start-up Mediego, bringing to life in a business context two decades’ worth of research into large-scale distributed systems. On Wednesday 27th March, she was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur, recognition for her glittering career as a researcher-turned-entrepreneur.
