On Thursday, February 19 between 7 pm and 9 pm, the Beyond Lab event on robotics will take place at theGrappe, the co-working space for collaborative projects. The event will attract the various players in the robotics field to its collective intelligence workshops. Inria Lille – Nord Europe teams will present two of the sessions.

Inria Lille – Nord Europe has made its skills and resources available to Jonathan Pêpe, a young sculpture student at Le Fresnoy – the National Contemporary Arts Studio, as an example of original collaboration between contemporary art and new technology.
Two new research teams have just been created in Lille. Defrost, focused on deformable robotic, and Mjolnir, specialized in the field of human-computer interaction, joined the other 14 teams that already exist at Inria Lille - Nord Europe centre.
On the 28th of May, the French blog "Binaire - l'informatique - la science au cœur du numérique" published an article by Christian Duriez, manager of the Inria Lille - Nord Europe Defrost research team. The article focused on the main research interest of this team : deformable robotics. Citing parallels with the newly-released Disney film, Big Hero 6 , Christian Duriez helps us to understand whether the soft robot Baymax is solely a work of fiction, or whether it is based on real soft robot research. The article has been published jointly with )i(nterstices, an online scientific journal, created by researchers with the aim of bringing computer science to a wider public.
The Soft robotics days 2019 (JRS) will be placed on November 26 and 27 at the University of Lille campus Cité scientifique. The Defrost team is part of the organization of this very first workshop.

As the SOFA numerical modelling software package celebrates its 10th anniversary, the founding members have decided to come together in a consortium. The purpose is to unite a community of researchers and companies in order to pursue its development.
