Creation of the InBio exploratory action with the Institut Pasteur

On 1 February InBio was created, the result of the collaboration between the Inria Saclay - Île-de-France research centre and the Institut Pasteur. Grégory Batt becomes the head of this exploratory action hosted by the Lifeware team and presents his project: automating the discovery process in biology.

Inauguration

The Inria Saclay - Île-de-France research centre is expanding

The extension of the Alan Turing building, headquarters of the Inria Saclay - Île-de-France research center, was inaugurated on Tuesday 14 February 2017. After 2 years of construction, the building now extends over 12,000 m² and has more than 120 news offices, a FIT IoT-Lab wireless sensor platform or a 130-seat amphitheater.

Yanlei Diao is awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant for her "Big Fast Data" project

Yanlei Diao, professor at the Ecole polytechnique and Télécom ParisTech, and member of Inria Saclay – Île-de-France research centre’s team Cedar, has been honoured with a 2016 ERC Consolidator Grant. This European grant rewards the scientific excellence of the researcher and her project, as well as her innovative vision in terms of "acceleration and optimisation of analytical computing for big data". It is the first distinction to concern a researcher who holds an excellence chair funded by the Université Paris-Saclay.

Understanding the human visual system: the PARIETAL project team publishes new results

The PARIETAL project team, in partnership with Telecom ParisTech has published a paper entitled: “Seeing it all: Convolutional network layers map the function of the human visual system”, which reveals that models used by computer for image recognition have much in common with the human brain.

Creation of the MΞDISIM project team

On 1 June 2016, the MΞDISIM team became a joint project team in partnership with researchers from the French École Polytechnique Solid Mechanics Laboratory (LMS). Team manager Dominique Chapelle looks back over the process of creating the project team from the end of 2012 following the close-out of the MACS project team.

Georges Gonthier joins the SPECFUN team at the Inria Saclay - Île-de-France centre

Since his thesis alongside Gérard Berry, professor at the Collège de France, Georges Gonthier has been exploring the field of computer verification of mathematical theorems. After having worked for the Inria Rocquencourt centre, the Microsoft research laboratory in Cambridge and taken part in the creation of the joint Inria - Microsoft-Research laboratory, Georges Gonthier is joining the SPECFUN team at the Inria Saclay – Île-de-France centre in order to continue his research projects and get back together with the teams with which he has been working for several years.

GECO: software to make images whole again

Reconstructing an incomplete image in real time: the challenge of the GECO team. Ugo Boscain and the GECO team from the Inria Saclay - Île-de-France centre are using geometric control theory for the reconstruction of images. Their ambition: to propose a technological solution to enable the real-time reconstruction of a photo. The European Research Council (ERC) has just awarded the researcher with a "Proof of concept" grant, which will enable him to add value to this research.

Man-machine interface

New man-machine interface: mini-robots for display and interaction

At the UIST2016 (User Interface Software and Technology) conference that took place in Tokyo from 16 - 19 October 2016, Mathieu Le Goc, PhD student with the AVIZ team at the Inria Saclay - Île-de-France centre, presented a new man-machine interface mode comprising several autonomous mini-robots that manage display and interaction. On this occasion, he received the best paper award.
