Meet the actors involved in scientific research in the Aquitaine region
On 6, 7 and 8 February 2014, Aquitaine's four public scientific and technological establishments (EPSTs) will be attending AQUITEC, the first regional fair for careers advice, professions, jobs and training.
Exhibition Centre (Parc des Expositions), Bordeaux-Lac: Stand C1/Hall 1, aisle B - Higher Education area (Espace Enseignement Supérieur)
A shared stand for more enriching exchanges
For the fourth consecutive year, Inserm (French National Institute for Health and Medical Research), the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), INRA (French National Institute for Agricultural Research) together with Inria, are presenting the diversity of careers in the world of science. Visitors to the stand can get straight answers to their questions whatever the subject matter - the different recruitment methods, training that will enable them to apply, personal accounts of their activities by researchers.
In order to raise awareness about careers in research and also the digital sciences, the Inria Bordeaux-Sud-Ouest centre has chosen a number of activities and demonstrations: Poppy the humanoid robot, discovering algorithms, a virtual tour, and also the "Isoloir" voting machine (a device designed by Tralalère).
A game called the "Inria brainstormer!" will be proposed to children and adults alike at the stand, with a great prize at stake. Come and try your luck!
Diversity, a reality: 80% of careers in research originate from varied backgrounds
The way in which scientific research operates means that there is a coexistence between extremely varied backgrounds. For researchers to be able to carry out their work they will need the support of, on average, four engineers and technicians in order to build and manage research projects as well as contribute to their technical implementation and administrative follow-up. From the experimentation room to the secretary's office, an entire skill chain is put in place to ensure quality research. Moreover, the plurality of jobs carried out in scientific research contributes to the creativity and competitiveness of our institutes' research teams.
A richness and diversity of career paths in the themed area
In the themed area for science careers - Stand C1, aisle B, Hall 1 - the Human Resources departments of the four EPSTs will inform the public about all of the entry procedures. Exchanges and discussions about the career paths of the researchers, engineers and research technicians will be facilitated through a range of activities they will be presenting in a fun way: carrying out experiments such as plant regeneration, DNA extraction, interaction with Poppy the humanoid robot, the virtual maze, observation through a microscope, superconductivity, the discovery of algorithms, etc.
