With Inria having celebrated its 50thanniversary in 2017, 2018 marks the anniversary of another important stage in the Institute's history – the 10thanniversary of the founding of three of its research centres: Lille - Nord Europe, Saclay Île-de-France and Bordeaux - Sud-Ouest. UT4H, a startup resulting from the DomAssist project by the Phoenix project team

A new startup from one of the Inria Bordeaux - Sud-Ouest project teams is ready to take off. UT4H: Ubiquitous Technology 4 Humans , holds the operating licence for Home-Assist , the flagship project of the Phoenix team. Dedicated to making it possible for elderly people to stay in their own home, this new company confirms the dynamism of “silver technology” in the region.

Posters by PhD students at EuroScience Open Forum - ESOF

The 8thedition of EuroScience Open Forum  is taking place from 9thto 14th July in Toulouse, on the theme “Sharing science: towards new horizons” . PhD students Cécile Mazon of project team Phoenix-Post and Aurélien Appriou of project team Potioc will be presenting their work. Cécile is working to create digital tools that will help pupils with autism spectrum disorders to attend school independently. Aurélien is studying the mental states involved in learning via electroencephalographic signals.

Inria Science Days 2018

AB et MLG - 28/06/2018

After Lille in 2014, Nancy in 2015, Rennes in 2016 and Sophia Antipolis in 2017, the Inria Bordeaux Research Centre is hosting the Inria Science Daysfrom 27 to 29 June, with the same aim: to unite the Inria communities around exciting research topics and illustrate the range of subjects, approaches and applications examined by the Institute in the digital sciences.

AMDECC Project wins award at Teratec Forum

On Tuesday, 19 June, the AMDECC Project, launched 5 years ago through a partnership between Safran Tech, Inria Bordeaux – Sud-Ouest and the CORIA (UMR6614 CNRS Université de Rouen and INSA Rouen), received the Award for Best Collaborative Project, one of the Digital Simulation Trophies awarded by Teratec and Usine Digitale.

Interview with Lauren Thevin : using virtual and augmented reality to help people with visual impairment

Lauren Thevin, who is currently doing post-doctorate research with the Potioc project-team, wants to make technology, including virtual reality and augmented reality, available to help people with visual impairment. She will be presenting her research at the Futur.e.s festival at the Grande Hall in La Villette, Paris, in June, and at the ESOF in Toulouse in July.

RoboCup Junior: Poppy is on its way to Montreal

The Poppy robot - which was designed by Inria scientists and came to life within the FLOWERS project team - has, over time, become an invaluable assistant in the educational world, in its different forms: Poppy Humanoid , Poppy Torso , Poppy Ergo Junior , Handy ... At the beginning of May, two teams of students won the national final of RoboCup France thanks to Poppy Ergo Jr. and will be heading off to Montreal at the end of June for the world final.

In order to democratise the digital sciences, Pollen Robotics designs robots that enable an understanding of programming and artificial intelligence in a fun and interactive way.

Tribute

Remembering Michel Combarnous

14/05/2018

It is with great sadness that Inria learned that Michel Combarnous had passed away on Thursday 10 May, at the age of 77. A renowned professor of mechanics and energetics, and member of the French Académie des sciences, he presided over the Inria Scientific Council from 1996 to 1998. He was president of the University of Bordeaux 1 from 1996 to 2001.
