How to transform a research idea into an ERC project ?

The event

Your science is sound, but... Ever thought you're too young, too inexperienced, not the right profile for an ERC? It is probably not the case! The ERC is as interested in your idea as in your track record. Whether you are a young or confirmed researcher, join us (experienced trainers and ERC grantees) on 29 March 2022 for a series of informative and interactive workshops conceived to help you understand what is an "ERC idea" and give you the confidence you need to perhaps push your own, and, in the longer term, submit an ERC project!

► Interactive workshops :

This is a half-day, in person event, in english. Most of its added value lies in its interactive workshop sessions. In small groups of 4-5 researchers and an animator from our team, you will be able to rethink your positioning with regards to the grant and its requirements. Each workshop includes a quick introduction, individual/group work, and finally a short synthesis among all groups. All groups perform the same workshops in parallel.

► Interactive workshop 1 : Transforming a scientific idea in a grant proposal for ERC 

  • Lead by :
    • Marie Christine Rousset, ERC Unit, INS2I 

Through collective roleplay, you will get insight on the process of tailoring a scientific idea for an ERC project proposal, starting from a given idea, researcher profile, and jury composition.

► Interactive workshop n°2  : What's an ERC CV like? 

  • Lead by :
    • Rosa Bernal Carrera, French NCP for ERC & European Affairs Officer, Inria 

Using a freely available ERC proposal CV (project DECRESIM) you will see what a good ERC CV may contain and how it should be presented. You will be able, in domain and research-experience coherent groups (best effort), to discuss and compare with your own.

► Interactive workshop 3  : High risk? High gain? Feasibility?

    • Eric Goure, Individual excellence project manager, Fostering Science

Via three dedicated brainstorming sessions, you will refine your understanding of the three key concepts behind an ERC proposal: high risk, high (potential) gain, and feasibility.
