At the heart of the 204 research teams divided among INRIA’s eight centres, more than 2800 scientists work everyday to take up the social challenges raised by information and communication science and technology (ICST). In 2008, the Institute set up a new system of classification for its research topics, which divides them into five fields. The goal is to keep pace with the current boom in scientific activity.
The project-team concept has been a fundamental part of INRIA’s culture since the very beginnings; it is what shapes the Institute’s research activities. Each project-team is limited in size and is assigned extremely focused scientific goals and a particular area of research.
