Using the fractal approach for studying complex systems has proved to
be fruitful in mathematics (analysis of singular measures), and in
physics (description of highly non-linear phenomena). Yet recent
progress has been most decisive in signal processing, using, for
instance, multifractal analysis and the theory of iterated function
systems (IFS) to apply fractal tools to ``a priori’’ non-fractal
signals such as images. The team’s goal is to develop new instruments
based on artificial evolution and on fractal models for fine analysis
of complex signals.
