Theory of networks and communications

Team presentation

TREC focuses on modeling and control of communication networks. Methodological activities are combined with industrial relations.

Research themes

Three scientific themes are particularly studied:
  • Performance analysis of packet communication networks, in particular in the domain of flow and congestion control as well as in traffic analysis.
  • Modeling by means of stochastic geometry that applies to various domains of communication networks where a planar or spatial component plays an important role.
  • Stochastic network dynamics by algebraic methods.

We collaborate with several industries and operators:

International and industrial relations

We collaborate with several industries and operators: France Télécom, Alcatel and Sprint.

  • Work with FT concentrates on two types of applications: optimization of networks, which is important in the context of strong competition between operators, and analysis of protocols possessing a spatial component.
  • The collaboration with Alcatel concerns the analysis of the interaction of a large number of TCP connections in networks composed of many routers with various characteristics WFQ, FIFO, priorities, RED etc.
  • Work with Sprint concerns the analysis of flow and congestion control in the context of multicast and in particular, the influence of the multicast group size and multicast tree form on the throughput.
