Hélène Kirchner has been appointed Director of international relations. She leads and coordinates the institute's international scientific and industrial activities, in keeping with the guidelines laid down by the supervisory ministries and the ministries of foreign affairs and international cooperation.

The agreements between Inria and its foreign scientific partners are at the heart of her mission.

From March 2007, Hélène Kirchner was deputy scientific director with the research department of Inria, in charge of "algorithmics, programming, software, and architectures". She managed LORIA and Inria Lorraine from 2001 to 2006, after leading the PROTHEO project-team dedicated to the design and production of tools for specification and verification of software, from 1997 to 2000.

Hélène Kirchner holds a secondary school teaching qualification in Mathematics, a post-graduate thesis, and a State doctorate in computer science, obtained in 1985, after which she did post-doctoral studies at Stanford University in 1985-1986. She joined the French National Centre for Scientific Research in 1982 and has been a research director since 1995. After leading the Prothéo project from 1997 to 2000, she managed LORIA and Inria Lorraine for six years (2001-2006). Since 2007, she has been on secondment at Inria, where she holds the position of Deputy scientific director.

Her research topics focus on the design and development of robust software: formal specifications, logic and automatic deduction, program verification, with a specialty in deduction, rewrite computing, and strategies. Since 2005, she has applied these techniques to the design and verification of security policies and the modelling of biochemical processes through graph transformations.
