David Simplot-Ryl, Director of the Inria Lille Nord – Europe centre
From June 1st, David Simplot-Ryl succeeds Max Dauchet as Director of the Inria Lille Nord – Europe research centre.
A research-lecturer, project team-leader and Head of Science at the Lille centre, David Simplot-Ryl has been contributing to research activities in Information and Communication Science and Technologies for several years, in close relation with businesses, in particular through the competitiveness clusters.
David Simplot-Ryl, a member of the Institut Universitaire de France since 2009, is the manager of the POPS project team (joint Project between Inria, Lille 1 University and the CNRS) that studies solutions to improve the usability (in terms of programming, adaptation and inclusion in conventional information systems) of small, portable, secure objects (the French acronym for which is “POPS”) such as microprocessor cards, RFID tags and communicating sensors.
After completing his thesis in theoretical computer science in 1997, he joined Lille 1 University – Science and Technology, where he taught until 2004. His research work focuses on POPS systems and networks, more particularly on communication protocols for sensor networks. Together with his team, he contributed to the implementation of SensLab sensor networks, that led to the creation of FIT – Future Internet (of Things) as part of the excellence-in-equipment (EquipEx) project.
