“EuroMediterranean 3+3” Programme
The EuroMéditerranée 3+3 programme (Algeria, Spain, France, Italy, Morocco, Tunisia) was launched by Inria in 2005. Since the second call for projects in 2008, CIRAD and INRA have joined forces with Inria in order to manage this programme together with the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS), the Moroccan National Centre for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST) and the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technology (MESRST).
Objectives
The EuroMediterranean 3+3 Programme aims at strengthening collaborative research projects between scientific institutions of the Mediterranean area by supporting mobilities and organisation of joint meetings.
The EuroMediterranean 3+3 Consortium is presently composed of 14 partners :
- Algeria: The Algerian Ministry for Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS);
- France: Inria, INRA, CIRAD;
- Italy: Politechnico di Milano (POLIMI); University of Cassino; CNR; Univ. of Pisa;
- Morocco: the Moroccan Centre for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST);
- Spain: BCAM; Univ. Deusto; Madrid Institut for Advanced Studies (IMDEA);Univ. Malaga;
- Tunisia: The Tunisian Ministry for Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS)
In order to promote extended exchanges between the countries of the Mediterranean area, the Consortium welcomes for the present call for projects the possibility to include in the program, partners from Egypt and Greece (the Direction of International Affairs of Inria can facilitate the identification of potential partners in Egypt). Projects including Egyptian or Greek partners may receive additional funding corresponding to the exchanges planned between Egypt, Greece and the partners of the Consortium.
The projects are selected for a total duration of 4 years with a mid-term evaluation. Funding will be granted on an annual basis, with a financial support from each of the partners engaged in a project (between 4 000 and 6 000 euros/partner). Inria has fixed an annual support of 6 000 euros/project. Each partner supports the travel expenses of its researchers as well as the living expenses of the visiting researchers.
The applications will be reviewed by independent scientific experts and the final selection will be made by a joint committee made up of representatives from the International Relations Departments and Research Departments of the Consortium’s partners.
Criteria for selection
Projects may concern any theme in applied mathematics and computer science. Problem-oriented themes concerning societal challenges in Europe or the Maghreb are generally encouraged, as well as those concerning biology (systems biology and integrative biology, modelling of ecological and agricultural systems) and the management of resources and natural environments (e.g. biodiversity and water).
Proposal must be submitted by at least four (4) teams from research laboratories or universities, including:
- at least two(2) teams of different nationalities from the European partners listed above;
- and, at least two (2) teams of different nationalities from the partners of the Maghreb.
All working together towards a clearly-defined thematic project.
The complementary range of skills of the partners is an essential criterion for the selection and should be clearly explained in the proposal.
