The results of the twelfth national competition for assistance in the creation of innovative businesses and technologies, launched at the end of 2009, have been announced. Valérie Pécresse, the French Minister for Higher Education and Research, met with the successful candidates last Wednesday for a day of information and guidance. The list of 2010 prize-winners features five businesses built on Inria’s research work.

The national competition is an important part of the innovation support system. It is organised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, in partnership with OSEO. Its aim is to identify and promote the emergence of business creation projects in the field of innovative technologies and support the best of them through financial aid and suitable guidance. Two types of business creation projects were presented.

« Creation and development' projects »

These are projects that have already proved to be viable. They have already led to the creation of a business, or will do in the near future. The following start-ups were awarded prizes in this category:

  • SysFera, the result of work by the GRAAL project-team, led by engineer David Loureiro, at Inria Grenoble - Rhône-Alpes;
  • Ambientic, based on the work of the ARLES project-team, led by Pierre-Guillaume Raverdy, Head of Development Actions at Inria Rocquencourt;
  • LYaTISS, the result of the work of the RESO project-team, led by Pascale Vicat-Blanc Primet, Senior Inria Research Scientist in Lyon.

« Emerging’ projects »

These projects are businesses that still need time to mature and to have their technical, economic and legal viability tested. The following start-ups were awarded prizes in this category:

  • UbInnov, based on the work of the ADAM project-team (Lille - Nord Europe), led by Nicolas Dolet and Nicolas Pessemier from Inria;
  • MPI-Gate, based on the work of the TRIO project-team (Nancy - Grand Est), led by Inria researcher Shahram Nourizadeh.
