Some examples of Inria start-ups and technologies to keep a close eye on in the fields of aeronautics, space, defence and security.
BACCHUS: Simulation and modelling of compressible fluid flows in complex geometries
The BACCHUS team develops and validates computational tools suited to compressible fluid problems and modern multi-core parallel machines. Examples of applications of these methods are the calculation of the pressure field around an aircraft during transonic flight, or a sphere-cone at hypersonic speed. These methods can also be applied in aeroacoustics, geophysics and magneto-hydrodynamics, or even elastodynamics, if adapted to suit the different physical conditions involved. "The work of Bacchus researchers has led to the emergence of partnerships with industrial operators from the sector: Dassault Aviation, Snecma, Airbus, etc.".
SynDEx: software to assist in optimising the installation of embedded real-time distributed applications
SynDEx software is the result of the work of the AOSTE research team. This team deals with models and methods for the analysis and optimisation of embedded real-time systems. SynDEx makes it possible to specify application algorithms, distributed hardware architectures and temporal characteristics, then analyse real-time schedulability and optimisations, in order eventually to generate the embedded code automatically. "This software is used by companies, such as Thales and PSA, which are involved in the fields of transport (aircraft, automobiles, trains, etc.), space, telecommunications, mobile robotics, consumer electronics, industrial process control, etc." SynDEx has, for example, been used in a collaborative project with PSA to install an algorithm to couple an ESP (Electronic Stability Program) with a power steering system on an architecture with several PowerPC micro-controllers communicating via a CAN bus. SynDEx can be downloaded for free and works on Unix/Linux, Windows and MacOS.
