Interview with Philippe Gesnouin, Sector Associate
Information and communication technologies have come to occupy a vital place in the health industry. Inria is forging an increasing number of partnerships in bio-informatics and medical imaging, disciplines in which the institute has been well positioned for a decade now. Work is being undertaken in new sectors, such as telehealth, home healthcare and medical data processing, for which strong growth is expected, particularly due to social demand related to increased life spans. Interview with Philippe Gesnouin, Technology Transfer Associate for Health, Life Sciences & Biotechnologies.

The fact that technology transfer in life and health sciences has to factor into far longer cycles is what sets it apart from other sectors. Inventions need to be validated, require marketing authorisations and rely on business models that are often tied to the reimbursements provided by social security and private health insurance schemes.
However, there are multiple potential applications of the technologies developed at Inria. The volume and diversity of information stored and transmitted in medicine is constantly expanding, and the demand for tools to process this information is growing in step with the increase in life expectancy and the legitimate desire to live longer with a better quality of life.
Below are a few examples of Inria technologies and start-ups that are most certainly ones to watch.

Start-up - Harmonic Pharma
Interview with Michel Souchet and Stéphane Gégout
Harmonic Pharma is developing a solution to extend the therapeutic use of molecules existing on the market. The business was created by two people with rather atypical profiles in the world of start-ups, since they do not come from academic research. It is their pharmaceutical industry research know-how, for one, and the development of innovative technologies, for the other, that allow them to develop computing solutions offering new prospects to existing drugs. An offering with international reach that covers numerous therapeutic fields. Interview with Michel Souchet and Stéphane Gégout, respectively chairman and managing director of Harmonic Pharma.
