International programmes - Africa
The first call for submissions of projects for the ICST Algeria programme (Information and Communication Science and Technology) has been extended to November 30th 2010. This follows a call for projects launched in June 2010 by Inria and the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Initiated by these two entities, the ICST Algeria programme should help develop and reinforce ties between researchers on either side of the Mediterranean  in information and communication science and technology (ICST) and applied mathematics.
International programmes - Americas
STIC AmSud is a scientific cooperation programme that combines research and development in ICST (information and communication science and technology). It concerns France, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. Its objective? To encourage and reinforce cooperation and networking between researchers in participating countries through joint projects. Each year, a call for proposals is launched from which future projects are selected.
Ethics and ICST
The CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) ethics committee and an Inria commission recommend the creation of an ethics committee covering research into computational science and technology
The CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) and Inria are making two reports public, namely "In favour of ethics covering research into information and communication science and technology" written by the CNRS ethics committee (known as COMETS), and "Report on forming an ethics committee covering research into computational science and technology" drafted by a commission set up by Inria. At the heart of our societies' development, computational science and technology and the research they generate really do raise fundamental ethical issues that both organisations wished to investigate. Emphasising the many fields affected by such issues, and describing the current situation in other disciplines and abroad, both reports particularly agree on the need to create an ethics committee covering research into computational science and technology without delay.
At the Inria Rennes - Bretagne Atlantique research centre, the research, conducted in 31 project-teams, is organised around the five fields of the institute.
The centre has defined three priority scientific topics in the 2008-2012 Inria strategic plan: multimodal images and data, reliable, secure, high-performance software and very large-scale distributed systems.
